Passive Design & Steel Framing Compatibility
Steel Framing Compatibility – Steel frame construction is low in thermal mass, but with care it can be designed to work effectively in passively designed homes with thermal mass floors. The insulation of the system is critical.
Wider than standard framing (eg 140mm rather than 90mm) will allow for improved levels of insulation in the wall cavity, and a layer of insulation wrapping the outside of the building will further reduce heat transfer to the outside.
